stories

Greece

The Greeks believed
the god of light
abandoned them
for some time.

The word eclipse originates in Greece - it literally means abandonment.

Archilochus a Greek poet
believed 'Zeus'
the father of Olympians
made night from mid-day
hiding the light
of the sun's ray.

Archilochus says:
Nothing there is beyond hope
nothing can be sworn impossible
nothing wonderful.
Since Zenus father of Olympians
made night from mid-day
hiding the light of the shinning-sun
and sore fear upon man.

Agathodes and his men
experienced the eclipse
on the second day
of the escape from their defeat .
The war of Peloponessiam lasted for 21 years
The eclipse was taken
as a sign of god
helping their escape
from the enemies wrath.
